ENTERTAINMENT: Duelling DJs
As part of the action, expect unique live sets and collaborations from some of the world's biggest names in dance music, in this premier DJ competition.
At the event's helm are previous Thirst DJs – PAUL OAKENFOLD, Tiësto, ROGER SANCHEZ and STEVE LAWLER.
They will lead the Heineken Thirst 2005 tour through its new global competition format. Recently voted ‘House DJ of the Year', Sanchez's influence in the dance industry is testament to his multi-faceted approach to music which includes his Release Yourself compilation CD, record label Stealth, club nights and US and UK radio shows. Sanchez has been signed as one of the two headline Thirst DJs for 2005, and will be supported on tour with his New York band.
"I'm particularly looking forward to tour cities where my fans don't get to see me too often. I'm all about encouraging new DJs and production talents, so this is all very exciting,'' Sanchez said.
Joining Sanchez for dates in Asia is dance maestro, Lawler. The DJ and remixer also has his own labels like Harlem Records, Harlem Trax and Harlem Electric, featuring the finest underground tracks from across the world. Lawler will act as an international judge for Heineken Thirst 2005 across six Asian countries.
Since its beginning in 2002, over 250,000 clubbers have attended this event and over 7,000 aspiring DJs have entered the competition.
The event gives local DJs the opportunity to play alongside internationally renowned DJs, widening their exposure and lifting their status. Thirst will travel to 25 cities, resulting in four regional heats and culminating in the first ever Global Final in January 2006. The Malaysian semifinal will be taking place tomorrow night at Zouk KL. DJ Air-Ren and Kesh, Altered Image, Box Set and DJ Learn will be the contestants. Each of them will be given half an hour to show their talents. Two will make it to the final on April 30 at the Grand Stand, Sepang F1 circuit from 9pm. The overall winner will win RM5,000 as well as other prizes.
