Born in 1977 in Barcelona (Spain), he started DJing in the early 90s, in the local discotheque of a quiet and tranquil town in the Catalan region of Spain called Sort (which has the literal translation meaning: 'Luck'). There he spent most summers of his childhood rafting Cuban style (using a massive tractor pneumatic) along with a couple of paddles that were spotted floating down the river one day from a real raft filled with tourists. But as he got older (and had to find a job as most teens do) he began working in the local discotheque, behind the bar to begin with, but was soon made The DJ as finding suitable and reliable DJs over the summer can be difficult.
It was there he learnt his main mixing skills, although it was using a CD mixer and at the time was a bit naff as Vinyls (better as years passed) were the choice of the true DJ, he appears to have been way ahead of his time, or at least the discotheque was. So, that's the reason of name TJ and not DJ, referring to 'track jockey', which was also funnier and different to the frequently DJ naming. Needless to say, over the years his skills at mixing vinyl have hugely increased, and this does remain his favourite form of DJing
Being The DJ he was able to mix almost any kind of music (which is the bonus of working in a discotheque - there is no set music style on the agenda, anything goes - as long as it gets the crowd dancing). Fortunately, most people in the discotheque would be drunk (to say the least), so tj. phil.x. could get away with almost anything (pop, hip-hop, r&b, salsa, rock, commercial dance, reggae, ska, ...), but overall he much preferred DJing house styles.
While DJing in the discotheque by night, he spent his days playing around with a guitar, managing to teach himself to play to a decent level. He still plays the guitar and rather enjoys coming up with catchy riffs that he will hopefully one day put in a record of his own. Apart from the guitar, he also likes to dabble with the keyboard along with his computer to make short samples that he can integrate with his DJing. In fact, whenever it's possible he likes to use real guitar/keyboard instruments in his sets covering known melodies over the main beats of a track, giving a more live sensation.
tj. phil.x. is currently a Resident DJ on the French-originated online radio station (similar to shoutcast) called VirtualDJ Radio, where DJs all over the world play live sets 24/7. He has a DJ spot weekly at 22:00-23:00 GMT on Mondays, although he mixes randomly on other days/hours. He plays varying sets from House to Garage to Old Skool and everything in between.
