Growing up in the mid 90s DC/Baltimore club scene DJ Terry Thurston was exposed to some of the most talented DJs and Producers in the world at legendary nightclubs Buzz and Fever. He was originally drawn to the rough and aggressive style of Drum & Bass but always had a love for bangin' House and Breaks with a little Trance and Progressive thrown in. Eventually his curiosity towards these amazing new forms of music led him to test his skills on the turntables and he hasn't looked back since.

Terry then moved to Savannah Georgia to attend college where he studied Photography and Graphic Design. Convinced that there would be no scene in Savannah he was surprised to discover an underground world filled with many talented multi genre DJs. Terry quickly became involved in the scene making friends and passing around mix tapes. Within months he secured a residency at the now defunct SoundLab where he played Drum & Bass to hundreds every Friday for a year and opened for some of the biggest names in the business including Dara, Dieselboy, AK1200 and ODI. Tiring of the newer darker styles of Drum & Bass, Terry progressed to Breakbeat and also began buying house music again.

After a year Terry joined a collective of DJs to help promote himself throughout the Southeast, and also began working at Spun Sugar Record Store. Both moves proved to be beneficial for Terry's career as he began to play in Jacksonville, Atlanta, Statesboro GA, Brunswick GA, Augusta GA, Charleston SC and Hilton Head Island SC. The record store provided excellent promotional potential, so Terry, along with new DJ friend Josh Barrett, began throwing parties in Savannah and Hilton Head Island SC bringing in a-list DJs from all over the US including Icey and Baby Anne.

In 2002, after graduation, a new super club called Apres Nightclub opened in Savannah and Terry became the Resident DJ and Marketing Manager. In a town full of hip-hop and top 40 clubs Terry was playing straight house and breaks to a packed club every Thursday and Saturday. Again, he and Josh brought some of the top DJs in the US to Apres for high quality, well produced parties that were talked about months later.

Not content to just be a resident DJ, Terry, along with Josh, started 80proof Records in 2002 and began producing music. Their first release "Catch the Punk / Scorchio Breakz Rerub" sold out in days and thrust DJ Terry Thurston into the Breakbeat forefront. Since then he has released a string of hits and has played out in numerous cities all over North America including Tampa FL, Orlando FL, Miami FL, Charlotte NC, Raleigh-Durham NC, Wilmington NC, Asheville NC, Columbia SC, Salt Lake City UT, Montreal CA, Providence RI, Nashville TN, and has made many triumphant returns to the DC and Baltimore where it all began so many years ago.

Look for more Breakbeat and bangin' House releases from DJ Terry Thurston on the 80proof label as well as Afterdark Records, Basik Recordings and In the Gruv Records in 2004/2005.

UPDATE - Terry has just come off of a two month Regional Tour of the US where he played at some of the best clubs in the biggest cities with some of the best DJs including Sandra Collins, Bad Boy Bill, Rennie Pilgrem and Miguel Migs. In August he joined the breaksfm.com crew along with DJB to host 'Back Room Breaks' every other Thursday @ 8pm. He also has officially relocated to Tampa Florida for more career opportunities and the chance to work with highly respected Breakbeat producers FactorE, J-Break and Rick West.
