"I believe that deejaying is as valid an art form as exists in the 21st century. It is painting with sound. The records are colors, the mixer is the brush and the results which are broadcast into midair, is the finished canvas. Unfortunately most area selectors seem to think otherwise. Instead of aspiring to Picasso-like heights they approach the decks with all the thought and grace of a short order cook flipping pancakes." Jason Duerr, a.k.a. D.J. Statikfire is waging war on those who think they can get away with such an egregious lack of skills. “There are trends out in the industrial DJ world that I find disturbing. How many times have you seen deejays decked out in the latest cyber-fetish gear that can't blend two records to save their lives? Mixing should not be trusted to just anyone with a hip look and a box of CDs."

D.J. Statikfire specializes in dropping industrial dance tunes. His style is best defined as gabberized-industrial, a heady combination of dark vibes, drum & bass breaks and pounding Mokum (city center Amsterdam) gabber techno. He began spinning records in early 1996, inspired by "Twitch" era Ministry and Belgian sound saboteurs Front 242 as well the then burgeoning Jungle/drum & bass scene in his hometown of Chicago.

A former employee of the Boeing Corporation, Jason took his DJ name while working as a rocket scientist running electrical tests and writing test procedures for the Boeing Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) in the Delta IV program. "The first booster section of the rocket was never meant for a launch, instead, it was bolted to a test stand and fired to measure the thrust. This rocket was called the Static Fire unit, since it never left the ground. I found a double meaning in this word. Static -- not moving, fires -- always in motion. Statikfire represents the capture of a moment of intensity. The ‘C’ became a ‘K’ because I'm German, and too cool for proper spelling."

Equally adept in the studio as he is on the turntables, Statikfire can be found producing tracks when not out spinning at events such as Saturnalia, Joy Blue's Sedition Sunday, Exit's Sexist Sundays as well as loft jams throughout Chicago. Technology is at the forefront of his thoughts and efforts. Recently he has added Ablation 4.0 to his audio arsenal. "With the myriad of amazing music out there, I feel it's best to utilize any new technology that can manipulate audio in ways not possible using conventional vinyl or CD decks”.

Though Statikfire constructs his mixes with intent on moving asses, his style spans far beyond the dance floor. His mixes are ideal for driving, working out, and getting down behind closed doors. "Radio stations / Internet Radio have played my mixes and I’ve actually caught club deejays that were too blown out to mix, playing my CDs front to back (Thank you, Billy, formerly of Exit!)"

Let’s face it, industrial music can be some tired stuff. It’s okay, you can admit that powernoise is crap. And while there are numerous bands and projects out there fighting the good fight, many people agree that much of the passion and excitement in this genre are missing. Industrial is not mere club music. There is a reason why the old Wax Trax! days are spoken of with such reverence nearly twenty years later. Luckily, Statikfire is here to bombard dance floors with the sickest tracks to be found on the planet, and reconfigure classics in ways you’ve never heard before.
