SOLANGE

Alias/Collaboration

• DANI DEAHL [Real Name]

At the age of sixteen, Dani Deahl's (DJ Solange) first influences in DJing were Chicago house artists like Mark Almaria, Bad Boy Bill, and Paul Johnson, which in turn fueled her love for Chicago disco. Soon after she fell in love with the genre she was buying records and practicing every day which led to her first Chicago residency when she was only eighteen.

Since committing herself to hard disco and tribal/Latin house, she has been able to spread both sounds worldwide, Minneapolis to Orlando, Oakland to Hartford, Shenzhen to La Paz, Hong Kong to Managua. And it's not just the infectious beats that keep people coming back. Solange also plays alongside live drummers and fire dancers and has been known to break records, dance on podiums, and bring items to throw to the audience. And it's certainly caught people's attention which has lead to features in magazines such as Chicago's UR, the Chicago Tribune, Teen Vogue, vinylbeats, shejay, and URB.

Solange also dabbles in production. Her first release on white label was "To My Drumbeat", a hard, guitar driven disco track done in collaboration with Mark Almaria and featuring a remix by England's Buno & Middleman. Wanting to expand her production skills, Solange created "You Make Me Feel Good", a sensual deep house song picked up by Los Angeles' Blue Iguana Music and scheduled for a 2005 Summer release.

Aside from DJing and production, she has numerous other notches in her belt. She was on Chicago's Energy 92.7 every Friday, worked for widely-known label group Dusttraxx, was on reality show "Switched" for ABC, taught DJ classes to young women at Chicago's Southwest Youth Collaborative, and had a weekly radio show named "Maximum Impact" on iTunes' Energy Dance.

Currently she is the house editor for the widely recognized URB Magazine (monthly circulation of over 300,000), hosts a weekly top ten show with England's Oasis FM (average show listenership of 1,500,000), and sits on the advisory board for the Chicago Music Commission.

All of this, and she is only 22.

"I've had others ask how I've been able to accomplish some of the things I have. The answer has always seemed so simple to me. Perseverance is what started me, what keeps me going, and what has me looking towards the future." - DJ Solange
