PHJC

The PHJC's musical adventure began in 1996 working on various blues/experimental music. Using effects pedals, guitars, backwards running turntables, a microphone, and a handheld cassette recorder. Soundscapes and disturbing noises were made, everything about his rock background in guitar slowly started to dissolve into abstraction and so the search for a new outlet began. A couple of years later the electronic scene was discovered, and it could not have been at a better time. New Mexico’s electronic scene was thriving giving birth to great shows and talented performers in all sub-genres of Electronic Music. Many nights were spent at shows observing the different styles of music and the community that still remains to this day inside the cracks of Santa Fe's historic landscape.

In the fall of ?99 the Hip And Trippy Productions was formed by the PHJC, his brother Lonely Boy, and a close friend to become more active in electronic community, in the hopes of keeping the scene fresh and to represent the younger generation. Hip And Trippy began hosting monthly events at a cafe as well as club events over the next few years. Over the years the PHJC became a proficient DJ, infamous for his dark taste in jungle and wide variety of music mixed with it. In 2003 he returned to producing and finished his first E.P, entitled On The Fringe after the boundaries of inspiration that would lye ahead and always continue to. The album was full of vivid soundscapes, abstract synth lines, and emotional visualizations. It was a great accomplishment and would help fuel a musical journey into new areas of drum and bass music.

In 2004 with the release of a few tracks from Music For Random Encounters In Strange Places there began to be a lot of attention on his produced works. Offered a radio show due to this interest in his produced music, he used it as an opportunity to perform his original music and experiment using a unique Live P.A. setup. The shows he played with the live setup were a big success and helped showcase his innovative style of Drum And Bass bringing international exposure and respect from peers as well as a hero or two. PHJC has since made quite a name for himself mixing everything from gipsy jazz live on his guitar, to Rock And Roll, and even Native American chants over some of his very unique Drum And Bass. This is a performer I will keep and eye on for years to come, if even for the simple reason that each time I hear something new from him I am taken too new and amazing places each time.
