Oscar Leal: a Star in Venezuela's Deejay Galaxy

Venezuela's Oscar Leal first showed his flair as a disc jockey some 25 years ago when he started mixing music and moods on mobile discos like La Tortuga, Sandy Lane, Stereoteka and many others.

He jumped to the position of club deejay at La Lechuga when that disco was at its hottest, later moving upwards and onwards to the legendary New York, New York, both in Caracas.

While continuing his gigs as club deejay during the 80's, Oscar gained further exposure at record companies like Rodven Discos and Magic Records, mixing for such projects as Full Discotheque, Magic Mezclas and Megaton Mix, along with 22 others.

At the same time Oscar opened the first-ever shop in Venezuela dedicated to providing equipment for disc jockeys, which he dubbed (you guessed it) DJs Shop. As if that weren't enough, he then launched the first deejay service for Venezuela's clubs and jet-set parties, racking up a client list that includes Bocu, Profano, Primer Piso, Citron Cafe, LeClub, Ziba, Whiskey Bar, Vintage, and La Terraza (Margarita Island).

Two transcendent moments in his career were the unparalleled, unforgettable New Year's Eve celebrations of 2002 and 2003 in the upscale Altamira district of Caracas - on both occasions more than 900,000 revelers were on hand to welcome the New Year.

The talent of Oscar Leal has also enriched fashion shows of celebrity designers and brands including Tommy Hilfiger, BCBG and DKNY not to mention the Miss Venezuela 2004 beauty pageant.

In recent years, Oscar's musical knowledge and savvy deejay skills have set the tone at international private parties from Miami and Orlando in Florida to the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Colombia, where he has shared the stage with the likes of Gloria Gaynor, France Joli, Tavares, Chic, David Bisbal, Chichi Perralta, 440, Los del Rio and more.

Since 1999 his own radio show Planeta de Vinil (Vinyl Planet) has been transmitted live nationwide via radio station Planeta 105.3 FM, on which he shares the mike with the popular host Osmer Morros. He was also co-host of a late-night TV show called Cero Paja (No Bull) produced by TV network Venevision.

Bringing music to others has been Oscar Leal's life, and these have been a few of his more memorable moments along the way.
