MATT SYKES

Having a keen interest in electronic music, Matt Sykes began his DJ career co-hosting "Bladder Control" in 1998, an electronic music radio show on 94.1FM 3SSR. Through his first gig in 1998, a DJ competition at the Metro, Matt Sykes was given his first taste at playing to a crowd.

From this beginning, Matt Sykes has played a number of gigs at Clubs, Raves and Radio Stations such as Centriphugal, Honkytonks, Fokus, Technosis, PBS and Kiss FM. In addition, after numerous gigs at Club Filter since 1999, Matt Sykes became a member of the Filter Army in 1999 to 2000, also playing many regular gigs at Soulsa throughout 2000 to 2001.

Matt Sykes and Rob Wu decided to end the 'Bladder Control' radio show in early 2001, after 2 and a half years running and such guests as Juan Atkins (Metroplex) and Pacou (Tresor). It was around this period in 2001, that Matt Sykes joined forces with Ra and Rob Wu of AUM Records, to create the 3rd in a series of Mix CDs from AUM called "Mind.Body.Soul".

Matt Sykes' DJ mixes have been described as soulful, energetic and well-crafted, a few of which can be heard on mattsykes.com and on www.tranzfusion.net, both from the early days and more recently. His musical influences are from the jazz, swing, funk & soul genres of music, and through producers and DJs such as Kevin Saunderson, Derrick Carter, Derrick May, Matthew Herbert and Carl Craig.

In 2001, Matt Sykes turned his focus to the studio. He co-hosted the AUM Show on KISS FM in December and began creating music of his own in one of the AUM studios. During this time he maintained his DJ skills by performing many guest spots around Melbourne.

The years 2002 to 2004 saw Matt diversify his work. In addition to performances at weekly nights from Oct 2002 to Jun 2004, Matt managed, handled artist hiring, marketing and promotion teams for the events. From mid to late 2004, he relaxed his nightclub DJ work due to a heavy acting load. However, during that period he released several mix CDs.

Most recently, Matt returned to the nightclub circuit, making his return in Launceston and adding several Shanghai club contacts in Feb 2005. His production work has increased with a couple of EPs close to completion. Watch this space for first previews of his releases.
