Before DJ K~Sly [Kathleen Taylor] envisioned becoming a deejay, she dreamed of being Editor-in-Chief of the LA Times and on CNN. When she was introduced to hip hop culture, it set off a chain of events that lead her to now.
Born on August 4th in Seoul, Korea to an American father and Korean mother, she encountered a multitude of ideals. Coming from a bloodline of violinists, pianists, and poets, she lived a cultured life, yet, no one had a clue she would be rocking two technics.
"I would lock myself in the room every other night and just listen to music, write the lyrics down, let the music take me to another world."
DJ K-Sly has grown into a skilled and passionate deejay. This unique lady has shined her experience and diversity on the world.
K-Sly took baby steps in the DJ world while in high school and more persistently through college radio. She earned popularity and respect early in the game while riding the airwaves.
K-SLY is currently on Sprint Mobile Radio's "The Ten Spot." Before that, she was the fun-loving feisty voice in LA during her evening show on 100.3 The Beat (Radio One), which featured her number one, most-listened to entertainment column, "The Sleazy Report."
Prior to The Beat, K-SLY was Atlanta's sweetheart on WHTA (HOT 107.9) with co-host, rapper/actor, Ludacris (Def Jam).
K-SLY expressed, "It was a blessing to work with someone as determined and motivating as Chris [Ludacris]. I learned a lot. I mean, look at him! Simply amazing."
Additionally, she did a brief stint on Las Vegas KVEG (97.5). Don't be fooled by her pretty smile, this multi-genre equipped DJ can rock any party, from hip-hop to house.
K-Sly has received a Gracie Allen Award for Women in TV & Radio Broadcasting. She was featured on BET's Style, Rap City, MTV's Direct EFX, FOX-TV with Ryan Seacrest, the Oxygen Channel. She was included in numerous publications from Entertainment Weekly, XXL, Complex, and Audrey Magazine. She was a celebrity guest chef for Project-by-Project on BRAVO's Top Chef.
K-SLY has been a motivational speaker for Rolling Out Magazine's "Entrepreneurial Success" seminar and for H.O.P.E. Worldwide's "Positive Choice" program, and hosted actor/singer, Tyrese's Watts Day, also the Asian Hip Hop Summit. This driven woman even hosted a national radio show for Nissan's Electric Moyo which aired in all the top 10 U.S. markets.
She attended Kansas State University where she graduated with a B.A. in Sociology. During that time, she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., socially conscious organization. While attending KSU, she volunteered at the university's radio station, KSDB (91.9).
She is dedicated to her career, sharing it with a passion in promoting youth and community service. She is extremely active in encouraging youths to vote by speaking at several colleges and events. Regularly, she appears at schools throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
K-SLY believes that youth issues are neglected, and in helping the youth, they may gain a better understanding of their place in society to become productive citizens. She is currently developing a scholarship for young teen mothers who desire to attend college, also an "Anti-Racism" essay scholarship contest.
