Wheather he's wreaking havoc in the DJ booth or in the studio, Johnny Vicious has made an andelible mark on hte world's dance floors and is regarded asa turntable phenomenon as well as an invincible producer and remixer. No wonder whe he's lauded internationally as one of dance music's brightest stars. His particular hard trance style that he has perfected over the years helped to propel him into a class off his own.
Prior to acheiving worldwide noteriety Johnny's roots date back to New Jersey, where he was born and raised. As a child, he initially favored rock but he began toying with a pair of turntables and became instantly enamored with dance musics sinous energyand the underground sounds coming from Chicago based labels like DJ international and Trax.continued fueled his burning passion. "It's Funny" Johnny laughs while recollecting his progression; "one minute I was into motely crue, and the next I was listening to Tony Humphries mix show on Kiss-FM. The started DJing in my friend's basement, and I didnt know what I was doing. If sounded like trains crashing." Johnny's mixing skills quickly improved, and in 1989 he later earned a spinning slot at Manhattans famed Palladium his first Big Apple show. From there he never looked back.
Slots at the most legendary clubs in N.Y.C. like Red Zone. Glamorama, and Sound Factory Bar followed, and Johnny parlayed these gigs into a residency at the world acclaimed Roxy that proved Johnny VIcious had arrived.
Soon after, Johnny collaborated with the Sound Factory Bars Jeffery ROdman and created Vicious Muzik. The paved the way for Johnny's seminal Liquid Bass EP, which showcased his promising melange of beats and sampels, and established him at the times as the up-and-comer in dance music.
Johnny Vicious has been one to simply let his music do the talking, but if he's adamant about anything it would his forward looking vision of dance music, which rails against stagnation and thrives on pushing the envelope. His relentless production touch has been felt by pop notables such as Whitney Houston, Chicane, Amber, Fliter, Simply Red, Aretha Franklin, Deborah Cox, Jimmy Sommerville and Kristine W as well as underground legends such as First Choice, Lolleta Haloway, Karen Finley and Shades of Love.
His unique concotion of hard and heavy trance, combines pop yet eclectic vocals provided a recipe for success and gave him hte reputation of creating his own innovative sounds as well as producing chart topping hits. This helped him secure his own mixshow on the biggest readio station in New York. WKTU where he can be heard breaking his newest remixes and productions on Saturday Nights. He can also be found at Roxy, where he maintains a monthly Friday night residency.
As if his schedule wasn't busy enough. He recently opened up his own record store in the heart of the East Village in New York City. Beyond Bass specializes in Johnnys trademark sound and since and since Johnny's also the buyer for the store so when you hear his DJ set you can be guarenteed that he will fill your ears with the hottest new tunes from around the world. "While I'm doing major-label mixes, I still want to keep myself in the underground." affirms Johnny. "As a DJ, I always want to hear new records, and as a producer, I always want to make new sounds. I dont want to get away from this music. Dance music will allways be around, and I'll always be a part of it."
