Biography:
Jazzmin T has been part of Colorado's EDM scene since 2001. She started spinning the wheels of steel in winter 1999 and it has been a non-stop journey ever since. She plays many different styles but favors breaks, drum & bass, tribal house & hard house. Jazzmin holds residencies with Sister Mile High (SisterDEN, The Denver chapter of the nationally based SisterUSA all-female DJ collective), BrainFunk Labs, Beat Pimpz and RadioActive Sheep.
Music has always been the highest priority in Jazzmin's life. All through junior high and high school, Jazzmin, was the "ultimate" band geek. Joining various honor bands, being a part of the schools (audition only) show choir, being voted band council president, leading her marching band as drum major, taking every music class her school had to offer including music tech, music theory, and jazz band. Jazzmin also learned several instruments during this time including clarinet, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, flute, piano, percussion, and her favorite, the guitar. She's played keyboard & guitar in several different garage metal bands as well.
Jazzmin also spent many hours in front of her computer composing electronic versions of scores she wrote for her clarinet ensemble as well as numerous original compositions. Little did she know that this was slowly opening the floodgate to a new world of electronic composition.
In the fall of 1997 she had discovered Phish and had become deeply interested in their music. She took a road trip to Phoenix, AZ to go see Phish in July 1998. That single event changed the course of Jazzmin's life forever. She had discovered a new outlook on life from all the hippies she encountered and in the course of that night, became one of them. She spent the next few years of her life deeply submerged in the music of Phish, Blues Traveler, Widespread Panic, as well as many other related bands including her all time favorite, The Grateful Dead. This is where she discovered the fun in tribal drums. There are shows that she went to that were weekend long campouts and at night after the shows you could usually find her right in the middle of any given drum circle. There was even one occasion where another musician brought his saxophone up to the show with him. After a little convincing he let Jazzmin play it. This experience was one of the most memorable and enjoyable jams Jazzmin had ever taken part in. A single saxophone with a drum circle. For years afterward, she was called "saxophone girl" upon returning to that venue. Jazzmin has also taken part in numerous jam circles with her guitar. She even got the opportunity to jam with Colorado's very own Shakedown Street (a well known Grateful Dead cover band).
Now for the really fun part… At the age of 15 Jazzmin started to listen to techno. She was a huge fan of Nine Inch Nails and one day her friend Jesse let her borrow Prodigy's Experience. That album, as well as DJ DB's History of Our World Part 1 got her hooked and are still some of her favorites to groove to. She also had a few old skool DJ mixes (consisting of early hardcore, dnb and breaks) that she had recorded to cassette to listen to in her car. She never really thought about how they were being made or that vinyl and turntables were even involved, but she loved the way they flowed and loved the new sounds that she was listening to. In December 1999, she finally started to discover the art of turntables and beat matching. It's been a growing passion ever since.
Over the past few years, Jazzmin has been popping up all over Colorado's EDM scene and has made a few out of state appearances in Oregon and Arizona as well. Jazzmin has been booked alongside national artists such as Simply Jeff, UFO, Lorin Bassnectar, Ron D Core, Hardrive, The Bassbin Twins, Kimball Collins and more. Her national & international fanbase has been growing day by day in cyberspace as well. Please check out Jazzmin's links for more information.
