JASON PHILLIPS

Jason has been spinning music for almost two years. In that time he has landed, regular guest spots on WUSC radio, a spot on Xtra Productions' DJ Roster, two club residency's, and has been blowing up dance floors all over the East Coast. His danceable forward thinking mixture of house and break beat have the desired effect on large events and intimate club nights alike. People dance when he's on deck.

It was the sounds of Lords of Acid and Prodigy in the mid 90's that planted the seed for his passion. After attending his first Rave in 1996, he has been hooked on progressive thinking music ever since. As the rave scene declined and club culture settled in for the long haul, Jason decided to carve his way through the endless sea of established DJs. Armed with razor sharp ears, tastes and an envious vinyl collection/habit, plus first hand knowledge of what makes people dance; it's no wonder he's moved so far so fast. Not to mention, his impeccable work ethic/value system and competitive upfront, honest and open attitude.

Originally choosing house as his discipline of choice, he later found that diversity is key when building and maintaining dance floors from scratch. He seamlessly mixes progressive breaks with minimal house & techno, garnished with gritty bleepy electro acid funk and disco to spice things up when a dance floor needs foreplay.

Quality music is what it's all about for Jason. He realized early on that dance floors are not kept and maintained with a one trick bag, infinitely long blends, or playing with your eyes closed. A dance floor to Jason is like a woman, "she's going to make love at some point to someone and it might as well be me, here, right now!!" In his record case there is the right record for every time, place and mood. Whether it's setting the proper atmosphere and warmth a discerning audience requires from an opener, or just merely blowing the roof off any commercial club he plays at with peak time madness via some of the biggest future classics out there: Jason never disappoints.

Breaking the tradition of being pigeonholed into one genre, Jason shakes the norm by doing whatever it takes at any given moment, to move people emotionally. He owns every track he plays and it seethes out of him though his stage persona. One look at this man on the decks and you'll know he does it for love. Still a banker and college student during the day, he'll never say, I'm putting all these eggs in one basket. Jason describes his attitude towards being a disk jockey: "I play records because I love the music, not because I want to become some huge, world famous, super star dj" "For fun some people ride waves, jump out of planes, jump motor cycles, read books, race cars, cook food or do what ever it is you can imagine would opens one's mind, and set it free. Riding beats, playing music, and sharing it with as many people as possible, are what sets mine free."

His attention to detail and professional attitude are what got his foot in the door, but it's the passionate drive to share music that keeps him out of the rain most weekend and week nights. On any given week, you'll find Jason playing at all the Columbia, SC favorites: Artbar, Metropolis, Liquid, Saludas, Rafters, The Underground, and French Quarter as well as blistering the Airwaves at WUSC Radio some Friday and Sunday nights. You'll also catch him at Tonic, Mythos, Sky, Steeple and Tutto Mundo in Charlotte on occasion.
