Insulin Junky was introduced to music at an early age as his father has worked for decades as a live musician in the music business and also works as a DJ. From the tender age of 4, Insulin Junky began to pursue music. He enjoyed and was inspired by his fathers musical lifestyle and soon took up the piano and later the drums.
Insulin Junky also enjoyed entertaining people and impressing them with his own performances on the piano and drums. This young talent hadnt managed to get to grips with the notes and so began improvising more and more. Then he began to write down his own compositions. At the age of 7, he won his first composing competition. He performed the songs he had written himself at the Enns city hall. And this was just the beginning.
He became increasingly interested in accompanying his father on his DJing gigs and was fascinated by this way of making music. Throwing down the records, motivating the crowd and above all exciting people. The idea of celebrating all night long has always fascinated Insulin Junky.
His interests gradually moved away from classical music and he became increasingly interested in the dance music of the day, which was coming over from Italy.
And so the years passed and eventually the inevitable happened - for his 12th birthday he was given his own DJ decks.
The coal cellar of his parents house was immediately transformed into a music room and from then on, Insulin Junky would shut himself in here for several hours a day to practice.
In those days, the technology was not as well-engineered as it is today and so he worked with 2 Lenco decks with a belt drive and a mixing deck with 4 adjusters. Soon after, he began to give his first performances at all kinds of school parties and youth events.
Insulin Junky spun several times a year at the then sugar factory in Enns and by 13 years old he had performed in front of hundreds of people and visitors at various events.
He then went on to spin each Sunday at 17:00 at the Harlekin caf in Enns where he entertained a full crowd with his music. The older guests in particular were fascinated to see such a small person behind the mixing decks. In 1995, he won a DJ competition where he had to compete against other DJs with many years of experience.
At 15, Insulin Junky blagged his way into the then famous Club Chrom where he saw something other than a disco for the first time - a club which was setting new standards for the club scene in terms of ambience, lighting and sound systems.
He was completely taken by the Techno music, which was still very new at that time and not at all common in Austria, and went out to buy his first Techno records.
Insulin Junky was also always looking to the future and his innovations at the turntables meant he was always a well-received act.
Aged 16 he was playing large-scale events and on one occasion ended up back at the city hall in his home town, but this time to DJ, not to play the piano or drums.
He then produced a track in the Electronica genre with a friend of his father, which had a very unique sound and was his own work. This track was played now and again in the Enns youth centre where Insulin Junky sometimes performed.
From 1995-1997 he played at the Club Chrom and the Harlekin dance caf but he wanted to achieve far more than just playing in front of small audiences.
Time passed and then his big break came. At the age of 18, Insulin Junky was given his first resident job at a club disco.
After a year, Insulin Junky was offered the chance to spin at one of the big discos in Linz and of course he grabbed the chance.
The venue, Funky Town, became his new DJing spot as he enjoyed playing here, had a free reign musically speaking and played a different sound to the other DJs.
Insulin Junky didnt like the commercial sound of the day at all and so developed his own style, organizing his set so that even the more experienced DJs couldnt help but notice him.
He spent 3 years as a resident DJ at Funky Town and was then offered the chance to DJ at the Empire and Nachtschicht club chains. After looking into both options, he eventually decided on Empire.
In 2002, Insulin Junky began working as a resident DJ at Empire. It went very well and he was widely known, which is quite unusual for a resident DJ. This was probably because he didnt play the music everyone else was playing - he played to his particular audience and the guests at Empire thanked him for it.
In November 2003, Insulin Junky organized his first charity event for diabetic children which kick-started an annual event which is still running and is still successful.
Each year, Insulin Junky continues to impress at the highest international levels with his own particular type of entertainment.
In 2003, he played abroad for the first time. Insulin Junky was resident DJ at El Divino on the party island of Ibiza.
This led to bookings such as Mayday, etc. This is a completely different ballgame but he still enjoys it and is still enthusiastic about all varieties of Techno and House.
Insulin Junky has also played successful sets in Russia, Georgia, Germany and Hungary.
