GABRIEL BLACK
A foundation of deep chunky, funky bass lines, covered in layers of silky organs, tribal drums, enticing horns, echoing vocals and atmospheric pads. Gabriel Black has been producing for almost 10 years, and djing for over 7. He has thrown numerous indoor and outdoor parties, and had his own radio show at Minnesota's 103.3 KUMD. Gabe has held residencies in 3 metro areas. His most recent offerings being Karma at The Blue Monkey Lounge in San Jose every Wednesday, and Off Center a down-tempo night at the Fugu Saki Lounge inside Blowfish Sushi on Sundays. He first co-founded Sierra Recordings in 2002 with JJVaas whom he met while living in Minnesota. Sierras first release was Breathe by Gabriel with remixes by label partner JJ and Jay Tripwire. The record did well in the UK, Gabe’s track got play on John Digweed’s kiss100 radio show and praise from djs all around the world. That was all well and good, but Gabriel decided that to eclipse the next level, his music would have to be released on a label besides his own. So he put his head down and started perfecting his craft even further. It would be 4 years later in 2006 that he would be discovered by Dj Nathan in San Francisco and the Generator ep. was born. He must have done something right, because soon after that he got hit up by Michael Donaldson (Qburns abstract message) for a track as well. As a dj, Gabriel Black has played in venues from Hawaii to Florida including the Winter Music Conference, and has found himself gracing the decks beside some of his major house music influences; such as Mazi, Jay Tripwire, Asad Rizvi, Hipp-E, and Rick Preston. His driving force is the stimulation of emotion thru sound; the voyage, the journey, losing yourself on the dancefloor ..... and his music speaks for itself. Not sounding like anybody you've ever heard before, Gabe enjoys staying unpredictable by crossing genre lines while staying fluid with seamless mixing. So, what does the future hold for this player in the House Music Community? If 2006 is any indication of what’s in store for us, than we’ve just tapped into the possibilities. Keep and eye and ear out!
