FERDINAND LIJNKAMP

Ferdinand Lijnkamp ('74) is an Amsterdam-based DJ and producer. Together with Mattijs Muller he forms the production duo Born To Funk.

Ferdinand started DJ-ing in the late eighties when a new style of music came around, called techno-house. Being a musician himself (Ferdinand studied guitar and composition at the School of Arts), he started to develop a passion for making electronic music. This effort soon resulted in a release on the famous Detroit label Plus8 Records in 1994 (Fascinating Rhythm), and a 9-track CD on Quality Life in 1997 (Later That Night).

In his never-ending search for the roots of dance music, through the years Ferdinand became a collector of (rare) dance-classics, disco, funk and soul 12 inches, and started to organize weekly classics-parties in his hometown Groningen. Soon he could also be found playing in clubs in Amsterdam, where he brought back the 'funky house' element in his DJ-ing, without ever losing touch with both his techno and disco roots.

Sharing the love for strong, groovy dance music, Mattijs Muller and Ferdinand hooked up in 2003 to start producing their own tunes again. This immediately resulted in a record deal at Spinnin' Records, releasing their debut EP Born To Funk - Part 1 in the summer of 2003. This 4-tracker was picked up by StoneBridge, Deli-G, Pete Doyle, Graeme Park, and other leading groove-DJ's, pushing the Born To Funk conversance a big step ahead in the groove-house scene.

After producing a number of remixes for the Spinnin' imprint, they released Born To Funk - Part 2 in November 2003, which immediately entered the Lewis Dene (DJ Mag) hypechart, proving that Born To Funk are here to stay, with their quality, funky, uplifting, dirty and sexy house music.
