DOUG COLLINS

Doug Collins first realized his passion for Djing when he was given the chance to DJ at a local skating rink back in 1997. It was there he was introduced to the early electronic sounds of Freestyle, Afrika Bambaataa and Soul Sonic Force, Pretty Tony, and others. After his tenure at the skating rink ended, he put his newfound hobby on the backburner for a while, not exactly sure what to do with it.

A few years later at a friends house, however, he heard his first DJ mixed CD. It was from there on out that he became an avid collector of all things electronic music.

It was mostly just a hobby as a collector, until he set foot in Club Asylum in early 2000 and heard Matt Freeman on the decks. Blown away by Matt's DJing, Doug became bound and determined to learn the craft for himself. Soon after, he was spending his college money on a set of 1200s and a mixer. Doug locked himself away in his bedroom for the next year or so and taught himself to DJ (also with a few solid pointers and many weekends spent in the booth watching Matt Freeman work his magic).

Asylum changed owners soon after and Doug found himself there almost every week playing at their open turntable night. Eventually, he was given the run of the night by the clubs owner. Then, in early 2001, Matt Freeman left the club to pursue other opportunities. It was then Doug was offered the chance to take his slot! It wasnt long after this that he became the sole resident DJ on the main floor of the club.

This lasted until December 2005 when the club eventually closed its doors after a 10+ year run. During this time, Doug also found opportunities to play at various other clubs in Dayton including Masque, Foundry, Pearl, and Nite Owl (opening for such acts as DJ Dan, Crystal Method, BT, Darude, Terry Mullan, and others). With Asylum eventually becoming primarily a top 40 dance club, Doug was given less and less opportunity to share the electronic sound he has such a passion for.

But he is back, with a newfound love for electronic music and an eagerness to make the dance floor move. Going from all vinyl, to all CD, and now on to Ableton Live has really given Doug an opportunity to provide a one of a kind dance floor experience for his audience. Never sticking to one style, Doug is guaranteed to rock you with a blend of house, techno, minimal and breaks. Be sure to catch him out whenever given the opportunity. He will not disappoint.
