Pitch Black

2003 was the year that saw the birth of the Deepologists, though David Ramsey and El (Lincoln) Prevost have actually been making music together for the last five years.

David has been privileged to play at an impressive number of venues in a career spanning over a decade so far. Better known venues in London such as The Ministry of Sound, Turnmills and the legendary Camden Palace have all played host, as well as international venues like Club Wicked in Sweden, Insomnia in Ayia Napa and Es Paradis in Ibiza.

Like many DJs, the call of production was a natural progression from mixing for David. He quickly forged his own sound, being influenced by his earliest inspirations like Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire and later Masters at Work, but most recently DJ Gregory and DJ Chus. David is a huge fan of the Spanish underground scene and draws his most recent inspiration from the skills of Chus & Ceballos (Stereo Productions) and also Wally Lopez and David Ferrero (Weekend Records)

The diversity of the musical culture of the last decade provided Lincoln Prevost with a great many friends who were successful DJs, which in itself proved to be a strong enough lure into the world of audio production. After completing his studies at Hurricane Studios in music technology and sound engineering, Lincoln began a career at London's Matrix Studios, a 96 channel SSL room that has played host to acts such as Placebo, Sounds of Blackness and Blur amongst many others. Engineering for, and producing a wide variety of artists, he has had his hand in just about every sound around!! Musically, Lincoln drew inspiration from the likes of Bob Marley, Luther Vandross, Westwood, Electric one and the entire breakdance era.

Where there can be no difference of opinion is their combined love of the heady days of the British rave scene, from early Hardcore, to Jungle and then Drum & Bass. Heavy hitters of the time like Andy C, DJ Hype, Ray Keith and Kool FM, opened their respective eyes to the limitless possibilities of the UK underground music scene.

The Deepologists are among a new breed of house music producers who try to steer away from the well-established norms of house production, instead looking to Techno and Drum & Bass for new directions in sound shaping and manipulation to produce strange new sonic elements and radically altered drum patterns. It is this tireless, boundary-pushing approach which has ensured that the Deepologists have created a unique style amongst so many 'tried and tested' groups.

When asked about what 2004 means for the Deepologists, David had this to say:

"We are extremely excited as we look towards the future. 2004 has begun very well for us with 3 releases so far and at least another 4 EPs scheduled to follow. I hope the end to this year is as bright as the beginning! Our main focus over the last year has been production. Now with an extensive catalogue of over 25 tracks to release, we are able to focus more on the DJing side of things."

David and Lincoln are currently working on a 'Deepologists Live' set where they will play over an hour of their own material live on stage. They also have in mind impressive Decks 'n' FX DJ set incorporating samples, delays, reverbs, distortion, time stretching and filter tricks. A show which promises to blow your mind in the true Deepologists style.

You can also catch the Deepologists live in session each Saturday night from 10pm on House FM.
