Ten years ago, there were more garage bands than djs. Nowadays, it seems everyone is or claims to be a professional dj. There's so much more to being a pro disk jockey than playing tracks at any particular event. DJ Sean Nice once said there are 3 types of disk jockeys in the world. 1. You have your entertainer; these are the ladies and fellas who are usually seen djing your brother's wedding. They are good on the microphone and can keep the crowd entertained by using their voice instead of the music as the focal point of interest. They lack the technical skills to let the music do the talking, but overall can make a good living at what they do. 2. You have your human jukebox; most disk jockeys unfortunately fall into this category because they have the financial backing to buy all the light and sound gear to bring to an event, but that cd player, turntable or computer based mp3 player is hardly ever used for more than your basic play, 2 second silence, play next track thing we call "the human jukebox". These are the djs who are now overpopulating the club gigs at many events, because they always have to have the newest technology (even thou they have no idea how to utilize it) and also because they only charge a club $50 dollars to dj a 4-5 hour event. 3. You have your low down dirty disk jockey who can read a crowd, program his/her music accordingly, talk on the microphone, beat mix, sample, remix on the fly, produce and remix using vast arrays of software/hardware, scratch, and basically throw down tracks so precise it seems like the melodies are flowing flawlessly from his/her fingers.
Needless to say, DeeJMillz is an experienced Professional DJ/Producer/Remixer that knows how to program and deliver quality tracks to the masses. Starting in 1993, he would dj private parties and weddings. 13 years later, you now can hear DeeJMillz mixing it up all over Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, West Virginia, and Worldwide via The Open House Party. At some point and time, DeeJMillz has either helped build, djed, or has had some type of involvement with almost every major nightclub in the city of Pittsburgh. For the past 6 years, his main residence has been Area 51 then Dejavu Lounge in the Strip District of Pittsburgh.
Many clubs have came and gone, and as we speak some are being born. Let's hope that these club owners/managers make the right decisions in selecting the right disk jockeys for the job. One of the many reasons why a club fails is due to a low quality dj or a dj that plays what HE/SHE wants to hear, instead of programming his/her music to the many different customers that frequent the nightlife scene.
DeeJMillz remixes tracks and produces dj extends daily. From new school to old school, from house to hip hop, from breaks to reggaeton, he is constantly perfecting his sets. This enables him to have a unique set that is similar to no one else. Most club djs, and many on air mix show djs, play someone else's productions/mixes, because they either lack the skills necessary to remix themselves, or simply don't care that someone, somewhere is playing the exact same set. "I've learned that in order to climb the ladder of the disk jockey business, you have to be unique, you have to know the right people, and you have to prove yourself time and time again".
DeeJMillz has made many friends in the music scene including Robbie Rivera, Dave Dresden, Joe Bermudez, DJ Rooster, Sammy Peralta, Jp7, Kris, Dan, Steve Porter, Josh Harris, Richard Vission, and The Klubjumpers to name a few.
The future of DeeJMillz' career is bright, and he has never been more serious than he is right this very moment.
