Dead Dan started his love for electronic music in 1995 when the Chemical Brothers took the stage of the Trocadero (San Francisco) in support of their 'Exit Planet Dust' album. His early interests and intrigue inspired him to buy a Roland MC-303, a $300 sampler, and a sound card. He produced tracks ranging from deep house to digital hardcore. Dead Dan would only discover the art of DJing after being introduced to the sounds of Fatboy Slim with the release of 'You've Come a Long Way Baby.' After learning that Fatboy Slim considered DJing to be his first love, within months, Dead Dan bought two decks, a mixer and set out on the challenging journey of mixing.
Dead Dan relied on mixes by Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Paul Oakenfold, Dave Clarke, and any other bootleg essential mix on napster to learn the art of mixing. But eventually, Dead Dan became frustrated with the uplifting sounds of big beat, as well as the melodic tracks spun by Paul Oakenfold. Meanwhile, Dead Dan experienced his first symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder, characterized by excessive anxiety and worry, which eventually led to severe depression. For two years, Dead Dan lived with thoughts of suicide, obsessively thinking of inventive ways to escape his anxiety.
Though this was a difficult period for Dead Dan, he evolved as a DJ. He stopped DJing as a hobby and learned to make a set into a pure form of expression. DJing did not allow him to escape his emotions, but it did allow him to express his anger, pain, anxiety, frustration, and heartache. It would only be natural that he would incorporate harder and edgier trance and house tracks into his sets. Fortunately, Dead Dan eventually overcame his mental disorders and now has a more than positive outlook on life and living (despite his DJ name), focusing full time on his DJ career.
After graduating from the no. four ranked undergraduate business program in the nation, he took a janitor position at the world famous 1015 Folsom, SF. After watching and cleaning up after some of the world's best DJs, he learned the importance of not only mixing well, but programming and crowd control. After four months of janitorial services, Dead Dan finally caught his break with one of the promoters. Dead Dan would go from janitor to one of 1015's youngest resident DJs in its history. For Dead Dan, his first time playing out would be at 1015 Folsom, first residency at 1015 Folsom, and first time playing the main room would be only his fifth time playing in a club closing for trance DJ George Acosta. He has also played in support of DJs like Paul Van Dyk, Christopher Lawrence, Sander Kleinenber, DJ Sammy, DJ Icey, Max Graham, DJ Rap, Hernan Cattaneo, etc.
Dead Dan continues his residency at 1015 Folsom gaining experience necessary to move the crowd at his whim, but also has dove back into producing music with his first white label release due near the end of next year.
