DAVE SPINOUT

Dave's interest in the dance music scene began way back in the hazy days of 1995. It was then that he first met Iain Cross in school and, after developing a taste for hardcore, the two of them began mixing. Whilst Dave honed his mixing skills he also discovered a desire for greater understanding of the music he was playing. This inevitably began leading down the long path to production. Initially Dave began playing with trackers on PC (sometimes spending 2 hours manually time stretching a single sample!!) but it wasn't for a few years until he began building a fully fledged studio...

As soon as Dave had got to grips with a set of decks, along with Iain and Jon, began organising under 18s events in Dorset. These Weymouth raves introduced many a potential party-goer to the wonderful world of clubbing... Amusingly their status as promoters allowed Dave, Jon and Iain to blag their way into Helter Skelter on a number of occasions despite their young age.

As Dave's mixing progressed he began visiting his local vinyl retailer far more than was strictly healthy and in the process became friends with Chunes owner, Meri. Around this time Dave also began visiting the infamous Country Club. Influenced by the music he was hearing Dave's mixing style gradually changed from its hardcore roots to a combination of hard house and nrg. As Dave's tastes progressed over the next 2 years his style of mixing became more and more trance orientated eventually leading to guest bookings at the Country Club. As Dave's mixing ability and confidence grew he progressed first from guest to monthly resident and then on to a weekly resident. During the long nights at the Country Club Dave played alongside many not Dj's including: ASYS, Flutlicht, K90, Trance Generators, Jon OO Flemming, Mark EG, Jon Doe, SHOKK, Andreas Kramer, Pablo Gargano, Cally & Juice, Dave the drummer, M-Zone - The list is endless!!!

In addition to the quality guest line-up the Country Club was famous for the strength of its residents who often outperformed the guest Dj's. Meri, Iain Cross, Jon the Baptist, Ben Eye, Northern Roy, Aaron Thomas and Steve Hamlett all proved quality residents during Dave's time at the club... Dave also attracted bookings from clubs around the southwest as one half of Cross and Spinout. Bookings included:

DHF (Plymouth)

Subterrania (Exeter)

Meltdown (Swansea)

Sonic Intention (Bridport)

Chemical Element (Seaton)

Premonition @ The Candy Store (Plymouth)

Southampton Boat Party - Entire crowd in our room!

Throughout his mixing career Dave has produced a massive number of mix CDs. He recorded Volume 1-10 whilst part of Cross and Spinout and has since released three solo mixes (Volume 1, Volume 2 and Volume 3). Despite not being able to think of any original names for any of his mixes the musical experience is not to be missed.

Around the turn of the millennium Dave and Jon had managed to construct a studio in Dave's bedroom. After many months of intensive knob twiddling, MIDI connectors and Cubase the first High Fish Recordings release came in the form of Future Unknown and Fishy Bizness, a limited addition white label. For Dave this was (fairly) swiftly followed by "Boombaa" on 2XS Recordings (Alien Trax sub label) (Spinout & Stormtrooper) and "Imagine" (Nu Energy) - Engineered with Nu Energy's K Complex. At this point Dave had to take a forced hiatus as he attended Uni. The studio that he and Jon had built up became split in two. Dave continued to play at the country club but had to make the journey back to Bath each Sunday!¦

2005 saw the (re)launch of High Fish Recordings. The triple release of Ending the War, Motionless and Transfusion has received massive feedback for there releases from the UK's largest dance music magazines: International Dj Magazine, Mixmag, and M8 Magazine.

After successfully completing his music technology degree Dave decided a complete studio overhaul was required. He scrapped (well, sold on ebay) all of his hardware and opted for a software only solution to his production problems. In the pipeline at the moment: Transmit Digital (Alex H & Spinout) - With Simon Eve remix! - Expected any time soon along with another pair of, as yet unnamed, tunes nearing completion. These tunes are the result of collaboration between Dave and Tricky (Ram Air radio). Dave has also guested on Tricky's radio show with mixes on two separate occasions (12/04 and 05/05).

2006 sees Dave plotting the launch of High Fish Digital. This will focus on digital releases (MP3, WAV & CD) of High Fish tracks as well as collaborations with other artists. With over 10 tracks planned for release in the very near future keep your eyes open for the launch of the High Fish shop - Coming very soon!

After some time out Dave hopes to be making a full on return to the scene in 2006...
