To begin with Chrissy T's biography reads much like any other budding, young DJ. From the very first time he took a needle to a record back in 1980, at just twelve years of age, Chrissy was completely hooked. His first experience of playing to an audience was the inevitable school disco and from then on hours of his free time was spent in specialist record shops searching for that latest must have hip-hop, funk, revival, disco or early house track.
However, twenty years later and Chrissy T is one of the UK's most well known and respected DJ's. Famed for his uplifting soulful house & garage and classic disco sets, Chrissy can be found spinning regularly at some of the country's most renowned clubs including the Ministry of Sound (London), Hard Times (Leeds), Pacha (London), Vertigo @ The Cross (London), Indulge @ Mass (London), Groove On @ Heaven (London), House Rules @ Propaganda (London), The Rock (London), Rouge (London), Legends (London), The End (London), The Loft (London), Sosho (London), Night People @ Bar Rumba (London), Independence @ Hanover Grand (London), Club Kudos (Sheffield), Bed (Sheffield), Sundissential @ The Cross (London), The Escape Club (Brighton), Distraction (Ipswich), The Manor (Bournemouth), Brunnell Rooms (Swindon), Unit (Sheffield), Goodly Wednesday (Cambridge), Home (Manchester), The Fez Club (Reading), Lamerica (Cardiff), Whoosh (Cardiff), Better Days (Cheltenham), Rain City (Manchester), House Nation (London) and Funky Mushroom (London).
Back in the late 80's Chrissy was a regular figure on the warehouse party movement and club circuit and had began to make a reputable DJ name for himself playing his favourite disco grooves and championing the more soulful and gospel influenced side of the music. Around this time he hooked up with the legendary Bobby & Steve (of Zoo fame) and was an obvious choice for the warm up slot at the twins new Friday night venture Klub Zoo @ Munkberry's in London's west end. For five years Chrissy controlled the crowd, setting the vibe for the likes of Paul 'Trouble' Anderson, Norman Jay, Trevor 'Madhatter' Nelson, and Fabio. Famous for its mix of disco and early house music, Klub Zoo and its DJ's became instrumental in planting the roots for what would later become known as US garage music.
With the US garage sound now in full flow the Zoo crew launched Garage City, with resident DJ's Bobby & Steve and Chrissy T, the first club night of itŐs kind with it's DJ's playing the best in soulful, uplifting house and garage alongside some of the biggest names from the house and garage spectrum. Held each and every Saturday night at Bar Rumba, W1, Garage City' is today the capital's most seminal weekly soulful house night out having seen visits in the past from the likes of Masters at Work, Jazz n Groove, Tony Humphries, Eric Morillo and Todd Terry. 'Garage City' has also enjoyed two successful seasons at Es Paradis in Ibiza. On 23rd August 2001 Garage City celebrated it's 10 Year Anniversary with a party at Fabric with guests including Kenny Dope Gonzalez, Dimitri from Paris, DJ Spen, Terry Hunter, DJ Disciple Ricky Morrison and Joey Negro to name a few. Also released to mark the occasion was '10 Years of Garage City' album ease via Defected Records in September 2001, compiled by Chrissy T himself.
2002 has been a busy but successful year for Chrissy T, with one high point being his main room residency at Soul Heaven @ Ministry of Sound. Following a number of one-off parties throughout 2001 at Ministry of Sound, Pacha Ibiza, Club N in Miami for the annual Winter Music Conference, Centro Fly in New York and in Rimini for the Italian Music Conference, all of which saw stomping sets from Chrissy T. The Ministry of Sound must have been impressed. January 2002 saw Soul Heaven become a regular monthly feature taking place on the fourth Saturday of each month with residents Bobby & Steve, Chrissy T, Phil Asher, Neil Pierce, Luke McCarty, Double Jay and Andy Ward joined by guests. Kicking off on Saturday 26th January 2002 Soul Heaven hosted a West End Records Party in association with the Legendary New York night spot The Paradise Garage with original Paradise DJ David DePino coming out of retirement for one night only to join special guest Little Louie Vega in the main room, to launch Soul Heaven's monthly session and making it an amazing and very special night which will go down in the house music history books. The elite DJ Line UP's didn't stop there. The following months saw guest appearances from Joey Negro (aka Jakata), Kenny Carpenter, Brian Tappert (Jazz n Groove/ Soulfuric Records), Louie Vega (who liked it so much, decided to make it he's exclusive UK residency - returning to Soul Heaven every third month), fellow Master at Work Kenny Dope, the full Basement Boys crew with Teddy Douglas, DJ Spen and Karizma, and a Ministry of Sound debut from Timmy Regisford, main man behind Club Shelter NY and absolute house music legend, all confirming Soul Heaven's status as the most influential soulful house night in the UK, very possibly Europe and maybe even the world.
As well as his Garage City and Soul Heaven residencies, Chrissy is also regularly spins at the Milk Club in Ireland. Other international dates include regular guest spots at Empire (Switzerland), Madison's (Jersey), Cheers (France), Es Paradise (Ibiza), Kool Club (Aiya Napa) and Screen (Helsinki), Kirma (Finland), D Club (Switzerland) and H20 (Switzerland). Chrissy T also took part in the 1997 Ministry of Sound Showcase Tour of Nigeria, playing to crowds of up to 75,000 people. In May 2001 Chrissy was a guest at GBH @ Centro-Fly in New York, to coincide with the US launch party of the Soul Heaven album, he has also represented out the UK DJ'ing at the last five years at the Miami Winter Music Conference too.
Away from his busy DJ schedule and as part of his association with the Zoo name, Chrissy co-produced (and regularly hosted) The Zoo Experience radio show. The show broadcast each and every Friday night between the hours 10.00 pm - 12.00 am on London's leading dance music radio station Kiss 100 FM until February 2000. Having celebrated it's 10 Year Anniversary in August 2000, The Zoo Experience, still remains the stations longest running specialist show. Following the boys departure from the now corporate run Emap station, Chrissy enjoyed an eight month stint broadcasting across the globe via his Zoo Experience with Chrissy T on internet station cnsoholive.co.uk and now regularly co-hosts and produces the new primetime Soul Heaven Radio Show on London's leading urban music radio station, Choice 107.1 FM, every Saturday night from 9pm until midnight. Chrissy T also regularly appears on guest spots for various radio stations across the UK including Galaxy FM, Capital FM, Radio One, Surf FM (Brighton), Soul City FM and many more.
An essential part of the Zoo team Chrissy plays an integral role within the company. Instrumental in all Zoo connected events, as Label Manager of the Klub Zoo International Music imprint his responsibilities include A&R, radio & club promotions and over seeing the general smooth running of the label. Chrissy was responsible for signing and promoting Overjoyd who enjoyed success at the 1997 MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards where they were nominated for Best Gospel Group, he also co-compiled The Sound of Garage City album on Telstar Records and Soul Heaven - the album - for Defected Records as well as the aforementioned Defected Record release 'Garage City - A Celebration of Soulful House'.
Most at home playing his first love of soulful and funky house music but just as capable throwing down a classic disco and rare groove set, Chrissy's 10 Year residency at leading US house nights as reputable as Garage City and Soul Heaven should prove his worth alone, but anybody lucky enough to catch this non-egotistical turntable master in the act will never fail to be bowled over by his genuine love of all things soulful and a set always played straight from the heart, which makes this star shine brighter than all the rest.
