BABU

With the dawn of the 1984 Breakdancing explosion, came an instant surge of peaked interest in the musical art form of the DJ. Amongst this body of music enthusiasts stood Christopher Oroc, internationally acclaimed as DJ Babu of the world famous Beat Junkies. Globally recognized as a DJ legend, Babu states that music is the soundtrack to his life.

Babu began his DJ career in 1989 with Spinners in Kontrol, a DJ group based out of Oxnard, CA. The birth of the Beat Junkies occurred in 1992, and in 1995 Babu officially joined the crew. Possessing the ability to creatively fuse the two major DJ elements is a practice Babu has mastered. His distinctive musical forte, which illustrates the perfect blend of new-school turntablism and traditional DJing, unceasingly fascinates audiences around the world. With turntables positioned as the backbone of his musical foundation, he continues to build upon his turntable talent, allowing him to create musical compositions that to this day remain unmatched. Internationally hailed as one of the greatest scratch musicians in the DJ sector, music aficionados also revere Babu as an explosive and prominent producer in the Hip-Hop arena.

Amazingly superior in the battle circuit, Babu captured titles in the three dignified DJ Competitions held annually throughout the world. The Disco Mixing Club (DMC) cast the individual honor of West Coast Champion upon Babu in 1995. He also seized the titles of Vestax Team World Champions (1996), the solo titles of the International Turntablist Federation (ITF) Beat Juggling and Scratching Champion (1997), and the ITF Team World Champions (1997 and 1998).

Babu's sole prodigy invented one of the world's first break records entitled "Super Duck Breaks" (Stones Throw Records). This original innovation contains an assortment of sounds, phrases and beats that DJs from all music genres have coined as an essential tool to create explosive "sets" or musical arrangements. In April 2001, this musical genius released another volume to this break record series, and introduced to the world "Super Duper Duck Breaks". Once again, this instrumental weapon delivers powerful intricacies that stimulate the imaginations of DJs worldwide.

One of the most documented DJs in the world, Babu continues to appear in both national and international media outlets, including live television showcases on MTV's "Direct Effect" and "BET Live", as well as feature stories in highly-circulated music publications such as VIBE, Source, and Rolling Stone. This past year, Babu, J.Rocc and Rhettmatic embarked on an eight-week, 45-city, U.S. tour titled "Word-of-Mouth", in which they demonstrated their turntable expertise. The Beat Junkies shared the stage with internationally acclaimed artists including Jurassic 5, MC Supernatural and the Hip-Hop phenomenon, Dilated Peoples, in which Babu is also a major force. This highly anticipated tour attracted thousands upon thousands, filling legendary venues such as the House of Blues in Los Angeles, the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, and Irving Plaza in New York to maximum capacity. In 1999, Babu, along with fellow Beat Junkie artist J.Rocc, exhibited their turntable talent and powerful creativity on "Sound Bombing 2" (Rawkus Records), a classic Hip-Hop compilation featuring world renowned artists including Pharaoh Monche, Mos Def and Common. Known to the world as the Bumrush Brothers, Babu and J.Rocc introduced two timeless masterworks by the entitled "Gold Chain Music" featuring Planet Asia and Evidence (Beat Junkie Sound), and "X-ecution of a Bumrush", a track from the X-ecutioners' current album entitled "Built from Scratch" (Loud Records). As a commanding force behind the Beat Junkies, Babu, along with fellow Beat Junkie artists, launched their first compilation album entitled "Classic Material". Dilated Peoples, comprised of Babu, along with MCs Raaka and Evidence, introduced their second album entitled "Expansion Team" (Capitol Records). This album, which was released last October, includes a number of songs, which display Babu's remarkable beat-making skills, turntable talent and production expertise. "Expansion Team" also features an original Beat Junkie track entitled "Dilated Junkies", created solely for this highly anticipated album.
