AUDISSEY

Joe-Sol 'Jay Sol' Malaikini, better known as DJ Audissey, was born on September 14, 1986, on the small island of Maui, Hawaii. He moved back and forth between his young parents and grandparents until the age of 10. That's when he discovered his passion. Surrounded by a family full of musicians on both sides, it was no wonder what he was destined to become...an entertainer.

Starting at a very young age, Joe-Sol began his journey into music. An aunt, who admired his passion, offered him a gift to help aid him in his musical journey. A Kamaka ukulele crafted of Koa wood, and worth over eight hundred dollars. This is what lit the musical fire beneath him.

At 10 he met his best friend Isaiah 'DJ Koolit / Mr. Kool' Tandal. After being paired for a science project, he went to Isaiah's hose to work on it. There he heard music that hadn't stopped since they got there, like a seamless track, but the songs were changing. That's when he new, he was going to be a DJ.

The songs were coming from the room of Isaiah's brother, Isaac 'DJ Rokit / Mr. Shakes' Tandal. He was a DJ and was practicing for an upcoming party. There company 'Tandals Mobile Entertainment / Strike Sounds' was pretty successful at the time and could use an extra hand. So there was his break, at ten years old, learning how to DJ and set up sound and lighting equipment. He continued with the company and in time could run a party himself.

At 15, he decided it was time to excel. He enlisted the help of Hawaii's most well known DJ, Kutmaster Spaz, noted for helping break artists such as the Notorious BIG. He attended the Universal DJ School and became only the 2nd student in history to get 100% on the final exam. Spaz saw potential in him so he decided to take him under his wing help the young DJ grow. Joe-Sol became part of the Universal DJ Souljahz, a DJ crew formed of the top student from the schools 5 year history. He was in a crew with DJ's like DJ Twikz (formerly of 102.7 Da Bomb, KDDB), and Saput Mo (Promotions Manager for Island 98.5, KDNN).

He mixed at car shows, malls, and various events until his first club gig...ON HIS HOME ISLAND OF MAUI! He was 16 on August 28, 2003 when he flew to Maui to DJ at Hapas' night club. From there, it was on. He set a goal, to DJ at the three of the top Hawaii night clubs before the age of 18, Volcanoes (formerly world cafe), Zanzabar, and Pipeline cafe. In January 2004, he hooked up with The Joynt events owner, Mike G and Mikes DJ, DJ Wreck. Wreck let him jump on at Pinkos night club and liked his style and music selection. In April 2004, the joint events threw a party at Volcanoes where he spun and accomplished 1/3 of his goal. He later became the head DJ for the club at 17 and was spinning 4 nights a week...AND going to high school.

Around the same time, he hooked up with then Power 104.3 Promotions Manager, CY Shimabukuro who gave him an opportunity to be part of the team. There he got to be part of the station and mix at station promotions. He was given the chance to mix at Zanzabar in July 2004 (at 17), and through meeting Cox Radio Creative Imaging Director, James Coles, he mixed at Pipeline in November 2004 (at 18). Though he was already 18, he counts it because he was added to the roster when he was 17. This is also where he found his true calling, Radio Production. He learned from legend James Coles, and Mike 'D' Adachi. They gave him the skills he needed to become a successful Production Director.

He then became Production & Imaging Manager for 4 stations on 8 frequencies in 2 markets. He also mixed for the station with Rhythmic CHR (hip hop) programming. His goals have increased to becoming Production or Imaging Director for a top 10 radio market in 5 years. He still is part of James Coles' company 'United DJ's of Hawaii' and remains close friends with Kutmaster Spaz (Universal DJ Souljah 4 life!!!). He also runs his company '2 Step Entertainment', named after a dance krew him and his friends started back in high school.
