AASCH

Influenced by at an early age by his father who was a disc jockey for hire; Aaron Schafer, aka Aasch had always longed to be involved with music. During high school in the late 90?s he discovered bands such as The Prodigy, Daft Punk, KMFDM, Revolting Cocks, and Jamiroquai.Image

He was invited to be the DJ of a handful of friends? house parties where his modest setup started out as a tape deck, a personal CD player, the CD drive from a TurboGrafx 16 and a home stereo. Although he had no mixer he managed to segue the songs by switching the cables fast enough to be perceived as a mix.

In 1995 there was a local ?rave? party scene budding which drove him deeper into the thirst for involvement. The current local DJs at this time were more privy to Hard Techno, Trance, and Jungle; but one DJ in particular struck a beat in his heart. Aasch had heard his first House track - Todd Terry?s Keep on Jumpin? spun by DJ Brian Scott.

His tastes immediately began to lean toward house music. Living in South Bend, Indiana which happened to be just an hour and a half from Chicago, IL he would sometimes with great endeavor, be able to tune into Chicago?s B96 to hear Bad Boy Bill and DJ Markski.

His first real gig was in 1996 at The Midnight Sun, an underage Industrial club in Niles, MI. where he frequented quite often until it?s closing in 1997. It was there that he received his first invitation to a party in Chicago Halloween of 1997 at the Route 66; it was there that it was set in stone his quest for the round tables.

Not soon after this time his girlfriend had purchased him his first set of turntables that unfortunately did not last long being entry-level belt driven Technics with platters that were about an inch and a half tall! He began his journey into true turntablism in 1998 by purchasing his first set of Technics 1200?s when his Great Grandmother (who just recently passed away this Christmas 1997) had furnished him funds for schooling. Schooling indeed! ?Aasch? (Ash) was born.

By 1999 he had begun to draw his own personal crowd at the local Log2 hosted events who had followed him to a handful of Chicago events and afterhours parties put on by Shade Free and Voodoo Child in which he had the opportunity of performing in juxtaposition to many recognized DJs such as Paul Johnson, Mark Almaria, Adonis, Traxx, Justin Long, and Acidman just to name a few.

During the time that the scene was suffering and nothing had been going on, he decided to begin hosting several ?wild out? house parties in his home almost every weekend. His parties are still remembered in South Bend to this day.

Now, after about ten years of performing at events, he currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana working his way into a whole new local scene that is engulfed with DJs and has performed upon request at a few events hosted by SideTrack and Therapy Nightclub. His next major goal is to begin producing his own tracks.
